Funeral Arrangements Update
The funeral for Dick Cheney will be held on November 20, 2025, at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., bringing together national leaders, dignitaries, and invited guests to honor his decades of public service.
Following the cathedral service, Cheney will be laid to rest during a private interment attended by family and close friends.
According to the U.S. Flag Code, flags are to be lowered to half-staff from the day of his death until the day of his interment. On the day of his interment, flags will be returned to full-staff at sunset, marking the formal conclusion of the half-staff period under the statute.

In accordance with the United States Flag Code, 4 U.S.C. §7 (m), flags should be flown at half-staff on the grounds of the Alabama State Capitol Complex in Montgomery and throughout the state of Alabama to honor the service of former Vice President Richard “Dick” Cheney, who passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the age of 84. The flags on the grounds of the State Capitol Complex and throughout the state of Alabama may be flown at half-staff from the date of Vice President Cheney’s death, November 3, 2025, until the date of his interment, which has yet to be announced.
