Funeral Arrangements Update
The funeral for Dick Cheney will be held on November 20, 2025, at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., bringing together national leaders, dignitaries, and invited guests to honor his decades of public service.
Following the cathedral service, Cheney will be laid to rest during a private interment attended by family and close friends.
According to the U.S. Flag Code, flags are to be lowered to half-staff from the day of his death until the day of his interment. On the day of his interment, flags will be returned to full-staff at sunset, marking the formal conclusion of the half-staff period under the statute.
Governor Meyer Orders The Lowering of Flags to Honor The Passing Of Vice President Cheney
Today, Delaware Governor Matt Meyer ordered all flags at state buildings and facilities to be flown at half-staff due to the passing of former United States Vice President Dick Cheney. According to the U.S. Flag Code, flags should be lowered to half-staff following the death of a former vice president, from the day of death until interment.
In light of the former vice president’s passing, Governor Meyer issued the following statement:
“Vice President Cheney believed in the promise of America as a shining beacon on the hill. Lauren and I are thinking of his wife, daughters, and entire family tonight as they process this immense loss.”
