Honoring Dick Cheney, former Vice President of the United States

In accordance with United States Code, Title 4, the United States Flag shall fly at half-staff effective immediately. This is in honor of former Vice President of the United States, Dick Cheney, who passed away yesterday, Monday, November 3, 2025. The United States Flag will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of interment. As a matter of protocol, the Maryland flag is lowered to half-staff as well. No flag may fly higher than the United States flag.

Governor Josh Green has ordered that the United States flag and the Hawaiʻi state flag be flown at half-staff at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol and at all state offices and agencies, as well as the Hawaiʻi National Guard in the state of Hawaiʻi, effective immediately. This action is to honor the life and legacy of former Vice President Dick Cheney and Maui County Councilmember Tasha Kama.

Governor Katie Hobbs ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of former Vice President Dick Cheney. Flags will stay at half-staff until sunset on November 21, 2025.

Honoring Steve Lipscomb, a coal miner who died at the Rolling Thunder Mine in Nicholas County after ensuring his crew’s safe evacuation during a mine flooding incident. Recognizes all five West Virginia coal miners who lost their lives on the job in 2025.

WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi mourns the passing of former Governor William Winter, who dedicated his life to public service and improving education in our state; and WHEREAS, Governor Winter served the people of Mississippi with honor and distinction from 1980 to 1984; and WHEREAS, Governor Winter was a champion of civil rights and worked tirelessly to promote racial reconciliation and equal opportunity for all Mississippians; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Tate Reeves, Governor of the State of Mississippi, do hereby order that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Mississippi be flown at half-staff from sunrise on November 16, 2025 until sunset on November 18, 2025, in honor of the life and legacy of former Governor William Winter.

Governor Tim Walz has ordered all United States and Minnesota flags to fly at half-staff at all state buildings in the State of Minnesota on Friday, November 7, 2025, in honor of former Vice President Dick Cheney and will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of his interment. Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are also encouraged to join in lowering their flags.
