Honoring Firefighter Nick Hutcherson
Governor Katie Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on July 11 in honor of the memorial of firefighter Nick Hutcherson. Assigned to the Pittman Valley Helitack Crew at North Kaibab National Forest, Hutcherson tragically died in the line of duty fighting the Knowles Fire in Colorado. He was 27 years old.
Hutcherson, who is from Glendale, and two others who were killed on June 27 were part of an elite interagency crew that responds quickly to fires.
“My heart breaks for the family and crewmates of Nick Hutcherson, an Arizonan who died responding to the Knowles Fire in Colorado,” said Governor Katie Hobbs. “He’s a hero who embodied the courage and selflessness of our wildland fire service. We owe him a debt of gratitude we can never repay. Arizona stands with his loved ones and others who died and were injured fighting the fire.”
Individuals, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.
